Thilanka's experience
- Your cat needs to be vaccinated against Rabies (1 + 1 booster) and RRP ("Tricat", 1 + 1 booster). The microchip should be inserted not later than during the first Rabies vaccine.
Note that a cat's minimum age for a vaccine against rabies is 12 weeks. According to the manufacturer, 1 rabies vaccine is sufficient for antibodies to form. It is possible that some hospitals require you to do 2 vaccines (1 + 1 booster). Considering that Maldives does not have any rabies case, but Sri Lanka is a country where rabies is present, you may need to do the booster shot to be on the safer side.
- Cat should be in good health.
- Cat should go under a general check up 14 days before travelling.
Note: Get the health certificate signed and stamped by a licensed veterinarian in the Maldives.
- You have to get an approval from DAPH Srilanka and get a permit to import the cat.
- Pet health record from the recognized veterinaruan should be stamped from the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare in Maldives and you need export permit from them. Contact: hussain.misfah@agriculture.gov.mv
